Campus Carry in Colorado

Are there differences between private and public colleges and universities? 

No, campus carry is legal for license holders in Colorado. Individual colleges determine whether students may or may not carry on campus property. Larger public universities such as UC Boulder permit the carry of handguns on campus. 

What can students do to appeal for their Second Amendment rights if they are on an unfriendly campus? 

Students should seek legal counsel for violation of their rights to carry a firearm if they meet the eligibility and requirements such as having a permit to carry and being the age of 21 or older. Students at private institutions that have created limitations should reach out to school officials in request for policy change, or state legislators for law reinforcing the right to carry. 

What would the penalty be if a student is found with a weapon on campus grounds? 

Students on a campus that has policy against carrying a firearm may be trespassed, face disciplinary action, or face expulsion. 

For campuses who would allow campus carry but are prevented from doing so by their state law, what are some things the university can do to aid students?
