Both colleges and universities have the choice in permitting or prohibiting students 21 years of age or older to carry on their premises.
Students have the opportunity to advocate for their right to carry a firearm by appealing to school officials. Most higher education institutions allow students to write to officials in request for changes on campus. Students would be inclined to request that the university change their policies to issue permissions to students willing to carry to protect themselves and others. Students may also petition to the Kentucky state government in request that legislation be passed to classify campus carry as a decision not dictated by the institution, but rather a requirement that students be permitted to carry at any college or university.
Students may face disciplinary action by the college or university depending on their individual policies in regard to campus carry. Individuals may also be trespassed and requested to leave the premises.
All campuses in Kentucky have the opportunity to permit campus carry and are not prevented by law from doing so.
