Per the Reservoir of Statutes of Missouri section 571.107.1, 19-year-olds and older are permitted to obtain a license to carry in the state of Missouri, and any college or university may allow students to carry on campus. However, any stadium with a capacity of 5000 attendees prohibits the carry of a firearm; multiple campuses in Missouri have venues with these restrictions. Firearms may be legally stored in vehicles.
Students have the opportunity to advocate for their right to carry a firearm by appealing to school officials. Most higher education institutions allow students to write to officials in request for changes on campus. Students would be inclined to request that the university change their policies to issue permissions to students willing to carry to protect themselves and others. Students may also petition to the Missouri state government in request that legislation be passed to classify campus carry as a decision not dictated by the institution, but rather a requirement that students be able to carry at any college or university.
Students may face disciplinary action by the college or university depending on their individual policies in regard to campus carry. Violation of venue capacity restrictions defined above will result in the removal from property, and further fines and punishments will be issued if the statute is violated again in the future.
All campuses in Missouri have the opportunity to permit campus carry and are not prevented by law from doing so.
